Recycled Paper Bag Christmas Stocking DIY
DIY Christmas Stocking by Yuliya
Does it feel Christmasy already or is it just me? Okay maybe it’s a bit too early for a Christmas tree decoration but it’s already a good time for a little Christmas DIY. Look around the house for a paper bag because we’re going to transform it into a Christmas stocking!
What you'll need:
* Medium or large paper bag
* Brightly coloured thread and needle
* Green paint (gouche is the best choice for kids)
* A small potato
* Scissors
* Pencil
* Kitchen knife (to cut the potato)
Step1:
Cut along the bottom and one side of the paper bag, turn it inside out. We do that in order to use the inside of the bag which has no patten, if your paper bag is plain you can skip this step.
Step2:
Draw an outline of the stocking on the paper bag and cut it out which will give you two identical stocking shapes. Now take a needle and thread and sew the two together to make it into a stocking.
Step3:
Sew in a little handle on the top to hang your stocking.
Step4:
Take a potato and cut it in half. Now cut off three sides to create a triangle. We made two triangles one smaller and one bigger.
Step5:
Squeeze a little bit of green paint (or other colour if you prefer) on the unused leftovers of the paper bag and drop your potato triangles in. Try to get just enough paint on the surface of the potato to be able to leave a juicy print on the paper but not too much so as to keeo the shape recognizable and clean. Have a couple of goes on the paper bag leftovers before printing on the stocking itself.
Step6:
Now print little Christmas trees all over your stocking. We used a bigger potato-triangle for the bottom of the Christmas trees and the smaller one for the middle and top parts.
Step7:
Once the paint has dried, decorate the house with your own handmade stocking to reminde everyone that Christmas is coming soon! - Yuliya
