Christine Schmidt started her art career at a very young age and by sheer hardwork she had grown the Yellow Owl Workshop to what it is today! You can recognize her works for their sophistticated yet playful aesthetic. Ranging from rubber stamps to jewelry (she has a line of exquisite gold pendants), all the graphics you see are lively with bold colours and all are a 100% original artworks.

Her new book teaches a wide variety of techniques that could be used to do a number of crafts. The book also features original templates using Christine’s designs. Vulture Magazine

 

Clifford Loh, the managing editor and one of the founders of Vulture magazine, has been a long time friend of mine and I am so proud of what he and his team has accomplished! 

Based in SIngapore, Vulture is an independent space to explore ideas that would influence a new establishment of a younger creative class. Aiming to empower a partnership between art, design, music and people to bring a new consciousness to the masses.

It's admirable how young the team behind Vulture magazine is and how much they have achieved in such a short span of time.

The magazine recently celebrated their first birthday with a party in collaboration with marc jacobs, and both Irene and I are so grateful to have been invited to celebrate this milestone. In the latest issue (available in the itunes app store for download on to your ipad), Vulture featured the styling works of Bella Koh, who is known as @catslavery on instagram. I won't say too much about the feature but wow, Bella really has a talent when it comes to food styling. We first chanced upon her works on instagram, and could not be happier when we saw her collaboration with vulture in this issue. Not only are the shots of the food amazing, most of her pictures are #homemade, impressive!

Real Living Magazine

I can honestly say that it feels truly encouraging and nice when a magazine like Real Living magazine from Australia approaches you for a write-up about the things you do ... share with them a bit behind the scenes of Bloesem and what my ideas are about interior design ... although it is a past issue in which (August 2013) I was featured, you can still read and see bit here over their blog.

I often buy Real Living and was very happy surpriesd to see this production I did with Marjon Hoogervorst in Malaysia featured in there. I agree with RL it is very interesting home of architect couple Wen Hsia and BC Ang in Kuala Lumpur. ... yes this issue is still available and you will love all the Floral ideas they have going on right now....

Living in Antwerp

The book you saw yesterday in Veronique her apartment is by publisher Luster ... it's about cool and interesting homes in Antwerp, Belgium. I haven't read the book myself but looking at some of the pictures makes me want to order it. 

It's not the first time photographer Diane Hendrikx is working for Luster. A whole series of interior books have her name on it. Glad to be able to share some inspiring pictures today with you. They give me a mad men feel ... what about you? ps. not all the images here are from the same book ... the post is perhaps more an ode to the beautiful work of Diane.

Bookreview and Giveaway: Furniture Makeovers

Good morning lovely readers, I am still enjoying vacation time in the Netherlands and am not posting  so regular as I normally do, but today I am very happy to have a book-review and Book GIVEAWAY for you just before the weekend starts.

Finally then… for all of you who had been hoping for guidance on how to restore, revamp and transform your vintage furniture finds…the wait is over… even for those of you blessed with two left hands (no offense, dear husband… ) furniture makeovers have never been this accessible and, simply, lots of fun to learn… enter Barb Blair with her new book Furniture Makeovers, published by Chronicle Books. Many of you will have come across Barb’s Knack Studio – a blog, studio and online shop full of furniture make over inspiration! 

As a keen collector of vintage furniture, it is great to get some hands-on advice, tips and tools, discovering clever tricks to personalize those special finds… even better, with my newly acquired make over knowledge (that is, after reading the book which I haven’t done yet…only browsed through the lovely images which are actually an excellent DIY manual by themselves…), there are no limits to what you can do with partially damaged, worn and torn or faded vintage pieces… come to think of it, someone should write a book on vintage ceramics makeovers, or perhaps I am getting carried away now… :)

Coffee, magazines and some marimekko ...

My mom and stepdad arrived last week and it is just so wonderful to be with them! Not to mention how happy I was with my new 'toys' from the Nethrlands :) ...perfect material for a good weekend!

Magazines: Linda, Red and Elle decoration - creamy lotion from Embryolisse, more marimekko plates and napkins and a nespresso machine ... loving the colors of these cups. 

During the weekend I'm going to show my mom my favorite spots around town, will bring my camera and try to capture some things for you too ... most likely I will post them on my instagram feed. 

When seeing the chinese white lanterns in one of the series in Elle decoration I again fell in love with them ... beautiful how they are stacked together here on top of the yellow stove.
