Kuala Lumpur home in the Dutch Elle decoration

Seeing a home in one of the nicest interior design mags that has your name written with it is truly nice. In the current issue of Elle Decoration NL you can find the home of architect couple Wen Hsia and BC Ang based in Kuala Lumpur. Last year when photographer Marjon Hoogervorst came to work with me on several projects we also shot this home and it is probably one of the coolest ones in KL.

building bloc architects are known for making the best use of basic materials, concrete, copper, stone. Using nature's own elements is what makes a concrete home like this feel warm and very easy to live in.

One of my favorite projects by building bloc is the Telegraph Pole house on the island of Langkawi ... click here to see those images.

But if you want to see the whole series of their own home that Marjon and I created than just buy the August issue of Elle decoration NL this month.                   [MORE]

Bloesem won the vtwonen Meet The Blogger Award 2012

"Best Lifestyle Blogger 2012" ... given to Bloesem during the Meet the Blogger event that was organised in Amsterdam last weekend... you probably understand that it brought a huge smile to my face.

Jurors Monique de Ruiter, editor in chief from VTwonen, Frida Ramstedt from trendenser en Emma Wijninga looked at 75 blogs and thought Bloesem should win the award: VTwonen Meet the Blogger Award 2012.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to join the party or the day, but I heard many very positive stories from bloggers who went...

Meet the Blogger is an international event for home-, design- and lifestyle bloggers and it is all about Meeting, networking, inspiring, and learning ...

Although I haven't been to the Conservatorium Hotel myself yet, I can only imagine it being a great location for a day like this. (ps. I was born in the house right opposite this Hotel I thought that was a funny coincidence) NotCot recently wrote a nice post about the architect, Piero Lissoni and the hotel.

Bloggers like Danielle from the Style-Files, Yvonne from Yvestown, Pippa Jameson and Frida from Trendenser spoke about their experiences as bloggers and how you can turn a blog into a professional job.

Frida spoke about how she started almost six years ago, what her blog looked liked back then and who she has grown to having her own online iPad magazine... I agree with one of her quotes 'Don't focus on what you do today. Focus on what you want to be able to do tomorrow' and I also liked this line from Pipa: 'Relevant, clever content'

In the autumn of this year Meet The Blogger will organise another day but this time it will be held in Stockholm ... and I am serious considering coming over.. a great reason for me to finally be able to visit Scandinavia. More info at Meet the Blogger website

Thank you Maartje van Laarhoven at Dutch Delights and Akkie Bosje for your input to make this post.

Congratulations to April and May and 70%PercentPure for the special mentions and receiving the runner up awards.

Parool PS with Bloesem

Welcome to you, the new reader, who has found me via this article in Dutch newspaper, Het Parool. And thank you Maaike Schoon for the very kind words you have written about Bloesem and me. I was delighted to hear that you were going to write a story about design/living blogs and wanted to hear my opinion and background. The five other blogs you mentioned, Apartment therapy, design*sponge, Emmas blog, desire to inspire and the selby, are also big favorites of mine so happy to see them too.

And how cool is that... Het Parool even used a picture of my home for the cover. Love seeing my vintage cabinet by German design label interlubcke and the design lamp by possibly Joe Colombo for Italian brand iGuzzini that I bought last year in the Netherlands in a vintage shop. I wish it is possible to still use my vintage Ericsson Cobra phone, probably the best phone design ever.

Marjon Hoogervorst made the picture for the cover.

I am very happy (and a bit proud... sorry for not being too modest) to show you my first magazine article that I did for a Dutch magazine Hide&Chic, H&C was launched last year and focuses on interior design trends and travel... basically all good things in life!

They have asked me to write the Back Home section of the magazine, in Back Home I write about designers and their products... I will be writing for H&C more often in the future... I am very excited about!

Just keeping you up to date of my daydreaming here on Langkawi island… being inspired is an important thing… for me when I started Bloesem in December of last year two blogs inspired me and have been very supportive of Bloesem…. Grace of design*sponge and Holly of decor8…. it was therefore a big honor (and of course very flattering…) to see Bloesem featured with these and other beautiful blogs in a Washington Post article of this morning, thank you Terri Sapienza for a wonderful piece!

It is funny… this evening I had a lively discussion with a very nice Indian couple we met at the bar about blogs and whether they were here to stay… there is no doubt in my mind…Last week my family and I spent most of our time looking for a place to live in our new home town KL… finding a home is on top of my list and having a base where you really feel at ease is so important… and although we travel light, we always make sure to bring a few items that remind us of Amsterdam and immediately give the right atmosphere to any new home… I have told you before about our friends XandL… very passionate interior designers with a distinctive touch… here are just a few images of their work… there is much more to enjoy on their website!
