Volksware
Silke Wawro founded Volksware in 1999. Silke was born in Germany but studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Eindhoven. There she started her label Volksware, which means ‘people’s products’. Silke constantly tries to understand what kind of emotional bond consumers develop with their product.
The Volksware Carpet is an example of Silke’s way to give new meaning and usage to a person’s cloth-consumption during his or her lifetime. You can buy the carpet per meter. Each sold meter is marked and numbered.
Have a look at Silke’s very interesting website and don’t forget to click on Volksware Coat, the most expensive coat in the world with a price tag of $746,394.90! (you can read the full story here)
