Yippie! Today I did something that, I believe, everybody should do once in a while. I bought a little present for myself on Etsy  … a beautiful bird print! It always makes me so happy when I find something beautiful and lovely. The birdprint is made by Inaluxe. I read about them in Uppercase magazine. Inaluxe is Kristina Sostarko and Jason Odd, two art students who met way back and started to work with each other. I immediately fall in love on their paintings. They have there own shop on Etsy! Everything looks so pretty and good to know… it’s really affordable!  So if you want to threat yourself? Go and have look in their shop.

If you are interested in lovely Swedish secondhand furniture, Rosu Rugosa  is the place for you! They have tables, chairs, beds and nice accessories. If you live in The Netherlands you even can give them a visit! Their shop is an cute old dutch tavern. They collect products from all over the world but Sweden is their biggest love. Rosa Rugosa stands for ‘living the good life’ and I believe too that is the best thing you can do.

Beautiful ethnic cushions, scarfs, paperware and lot’s more you can find at Bungalow , a great Danish brand! The products are decorated with the finest Indian patterns of paisleys, florals, borders, repetition of motifs, and the art of block-printing. Love the sweet coloured prints. You can find them in Europe and on some web shops. Have a look on their site, to see where you can buy something “Bungalowish” for in your house!

HEMA...My uber favourite shop! I am one of the lucky designers who work for this famous Dutch store. Let me explain what kind of brand HEMA is. HEMA is a Dutch warehouse since 1926 and sells all kinds of products; fashion, living & food. The collection looks fresh, special and simpel and stands for low prices without loosing a good quality. A concept, which I think, is great. HEMA has more then 500 shops in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France… and is expanding more and more abroad.

At the moment HEMA is having a design contest for students, you can help choose the winner by voting online for the best new design.

My neighborhood .... Haarlemmerdijk in Amsterdam

Groteavontuur

*Guest post by Joelle Wehkamp

I live in the “ Jordaan’, a famous neighborhood in Amsterdam, nearby my favorite shopping streets the ‘ Haarlemmerstreet’ and the “ Haarlemmerdijk’. Here you can find a lot of nice little shops. Dangerous for your wallet but oh-so-nice! Last weekend I did my weekly shopping. Let me take you to Amsterdam for a few minutes. On the Haarlemmerstreet you can find ‘ het Grote Avontuur’. Here you can treat yourself on furniture and home accessories.Their style is folklore mixed with second-hand style! I always want to buy something.

For the most tasteful oils and vinegars you must go to Meeuwig & Zn. They offer you a lot of choice and in the back you even can drink a small beer if you want. I bought wonderful lemon oil! MMM! And together with a freshly baked bread of ‘Vlaams Broodhuis’, a few houses away, it is a perfect afternoon snack.

There is something funny going on at Haarlemmerdijk 41. During the week it is an empty store but every weekend something new and different pops up in this place. Which makes it every time a surprise. Last weekend it was Nooosugar who popped up. Nooosugar makes stunning handmade cushions, bedspreads and more. They sell their products normally on there website, this little popup store was just a try out. I fall in love with their beautiful colored stripes. Very curious which brand will pop up next time on number 41!

Restored

Restored is a shop and atelier in one. Started by two young designers who create all kinds of unique products. Restored is a fashion, interior and accessories store. And you can find other nice young designers as well. I always walk in for a quick view. And it’s always lovely! Look on their web shop to buy a nice little present for yourself!

To make this little shopping perfect, I end up at ‘het IJscuypje’. I am truly an ice cream addict so you maybe can image how glad I am with this wonderful ice cream store just around the corner. Their ice is made of fresh products, it’s creamy and the shop looks just very simple and cute. You’ll find them on different spots in Amsterdam.

Thank so much Joelle for this shopping spree at the Haarlemmerdijk...can't wait to go there in August!

I'm happy to announce a new guest-writer for Bloesem...her name is Joëlle and ever since she was a little child her family loved to call her Sjoe Sjoe. She is a designer in Amsterdam, specialized in designing products, fashion, prints and concepts. And lucky to work for HEMA (you know everyone's most loved shop in the Netherlands)...she started a very nice blog and the coming weeks she will share some of her great finds with us on Wednesdays...Welcome Sjoe Sjoe!

Today Joëlle  starts with a introducing us to the talented  Laura McCafferty...

One of my favourite artists is Laura McCafferty. I would love to have one of her art pieces on my wall! By seeing her fun fabric art I really get inspired! Every now and then Laura pops up in all kinds of musea all over the world. I saw a great exhibition of her in Bath Fashion Museum last year.

After her graduation in 2003 Laura became pretty successful. She makes beautiful mixes of line drawings, fabric appliques, screen-prints and hand-stitches. With her work she shows, on a very humorous way, the ordinary life of ordinary people.
