A home in New York

ByAMt_alissia

{photo credit: Austin McAllister}

Very very nice to visit this home in Greenpoint, Brooklyn - New York today where two wonderful Dutch designers live. I had the pleasure of meeting this cool couple at NYIGF last year. And I admire what they have done in the past and what they are still doing today ... building a future together and making it in the big apple.

About 7 years after arriving in New York  Jan Habraken now runs his own consulting firm, FormNation and Alissia Melka-Teichroew has her own brand, byAMT. The latter might sound familiar as I have written about her work a couple of times before on Bloesem.

With clients like Adidas, Beth Bath and Beyond and Kikkerland, Jan with his FormNation truly has made a name in the business where he as a consultant for commercial giftware and product companies, as well as design furniture and interiors for brands world wide.

Alissia not only is a designer of jewelry and accessories, she also creates the most beautiful table top products, some furniture and amazing wallpaper, like the 'Ballpoint wallpaper'. Next week I will share some images of her work at the Salone di Mobile Fair 2013.

While reading an interview with them over at Brooklyn Magazine I heard the couple say that they are very happy here in this apartment but the thing they miss most is a real outdoor area to have some diner or just enjoy a morning coffee. I really like how they have decorated the place. The kitchen has so much charm and keeping it so clean and simple allow all the items to be in the spotlight.

Many more images for you below the break ... enjoy!

Let's Get Personal in Germany with Dinah Smutny from Lilesadi

G:: German is ... a big good breakfast with egg and mustard, cereal bread, smoked salmon, jam, different cheeses and ham.

E:: entrance, when entering my home you will notice...a lot of white, a funny mix of individual things from flea markets, vintage shops, Ikea and of course Lilesadi.

Lilesadi-11

R:: room, my favorite room in our home is...the balcony. I love to hang out in the weekends reading magazines or inviting people over for barbecue.

M:: memories I cherish are...my study time in Florence, my fun flatshare in the via della Robbia, wine on the piazza, aperitivo in the evening and laid back festivals during summer here in Rotterdam.

Let's Talk with Tessa Pearson from just a little joy

Let's Talk with Tessa Pearson from just a little joy

Welcome Tessa, can you please tell us a bit more about yourself?

Hmm this is a difficult one to start with. Well, I live in South London, I work for a magazine, Elle decoration UK and I write a blog about lifestyle and design-related things. I’m a country girl at heart, and despite the fact that I love my day job, I do harbour a secret desire to stay at home and do domestic stuff like preparing meals for the freezer and reorganizing my cupboards. But don’t tell anyone.

How did you end up in the world of design and interiors?

I’ve think I’ve always been quite a visual person, but it took me a while to realise it as I was more focused on writing. I started keeping scrapbooks when I was little, and they’re filled with interiors images and other photographs that I cut out of magazines and newspapers. I’m definitely a homemaker, and I think that got me interested in design. My space has always held a lot of importance - from my childhood bedroom to the little attic flat that I’m currently living in.

The name of your blog 'just a little joy' sounds sweet and humble. Why did you choose it?
I’m not one of those people who finds it easy to be still and content. I’m always looking for the next big challenge or project, or trying improve on something I’ve already done. I wanted to start a blog that would help me to notice all the beautiful, enjoyable things that I come across every day and remind me to take pleasure in them, in order to slow myself down a bit and live in the present. It has actually helped a bit!                                                                                       ....MORE

S:: style, means... mix things and let some pieces shine. Don’t match to much because it will be one sauce. I like ageless/timeless interiors with some special accessories and beautiful art.

G:: gardening is something i like in my dreams, but in reality a don’t take the time. So I like wild gardens

Let's Get Personal in Malaysia with Irene Hoofs from Bloesem...

Bloesem6

Let's Get Personal with me, Irene, in my old house in Kuala Lumpur

D:: Dutch is ... not easy to de-scribe, many things are going through my mind ... but most important: reliable. Learning in school to think outside the box and allowed to ask questions!

E:: entrance, when entering my home you will notice... you have to take of your shoes. A typical thing from warm countries. I still have a love-hate affair with this tradition especially when wearing my party shoes and being asked at other people's houses to take off my shoes too ... but other then that I think it is a very smart thing to do.

S:: style, means... be yourself and dare to share your own taste albeit in the clothes you wear, the way you decorate your home or the way you approach life...

I:: interesting places in my city, ... are KL Pac, ACME restaurant, Sundays, Wondermilk and the homes from Building Bloc.                                                                                          << Read More >>
