Small Budget Library

It is not easy for me to post about the humble beginnings of my husband's and my first home on the gorgeousness that is Bloesem Living, but Irene has mentioned to me before, that she would like me to post about what I am restoring, and refreshing over at my first place. 

I write about my first place and more here (we're currently working on a blog redesign) and the latest project my husband and I took on was creating a library in our entryway. We had a very small budget to work with, and knew that even though we couldn't afford to do everything we'd love to - we'd make the best of what we could do. A Dutch home that you will like!

I expected the lady behind Dutch brand HomemadeHappiness, appracadabra and ozowiezo, to live in a beautiful, personal and interesting home, but I was truly very happily surprised when seeing her amazing home this morning right here. So much character, originality and style. Perhaps the collection vintage embroidered birds on the wall above are my favorite. The house is featured this month in one of the Netherlands leading magazines for kids, called Kek Mama. Enjoy the inspiration... quick question, what do you like best in Diana's home?

Interview with Christiane Lemieux about her book 'Undecorate'

A little while back this beautiful book was given to me by a super friendly Canadian lady, Corinne Suchy, Vice-President & Editor Online for Chapters Indigo Canada.

A little while back she was visiting Singapore and we tried to meet up but unfortunately we weren't able to. But Corinne and I are currently chatting about possible projects between Chapters Indigo and Bloesem. Will keep you posted of course... hopefully I am able to show you something next week already... 

But today I would like to tell you a bit more about this book Undecorated by Christiane Lemieux. The founder, designer and creative brains behind Dwell Studio, an interior design label. I had only seen some pics of the cover of the book before so I was super delighted to see it in real.

Corinne thought with me being a person who is not so much into 'set-rules' for decorating, but more loving characteristic an personal approaches when it comes to decorating this would be the perfect book for and and she couldn't be more right... I absolutely love the book and was really eager to hear a bit more from the author, Christiane Lemieux, about the why's and how's of this book so I asked her a couple of questions and she happily replied... click here for the interview.

     

An amazing terrace home in Kuala Lumpur

One of my best friends here in Kuala Lumpur is also one of the best interior designers I know personally. Less than a year ago she, Jo England,  told me about a new business venture she was going to start with two other people... buying run-down houses, completely renovate them and bring them back on the market... wow, I said not an easy or light project, but I had all the confidence in her that would succeed... and see here only a couple of months later. The first house is finished, done.. ready for a new tenant.

 My friend, Jo and her partners stripped down the house completely, opened it up but kept all the original elements. Using materials like steel and wood that they found throughout the house while renovating and re-using it to new doors, stairs, detailing and even a dining table is what I believe Jo her biggest strength...
