Over the past week, we had the pleasure of spending some time with Aussie darling Gemma Patford (pictured above helping a student perfect her painting). The Melbourne-based maker is such a sweet heart, we could not help but fall in love with her and her beautiful rope vessels. Her positive energy and lively personality definitely made all her classes a blast! Her instructions and demonstrations were clear and students left confident enough to make their own rope vessels. Plus the lady is hilarious.
Some student work being displayed. Everyone received some rope vessel making supplies that they could bring home to continue working on their pieces. We also painted vessels that Gemma had prepared for every student before hand.
Gemma set up a peg board full of inspiration for the students of work that she has done or that she had begun but not completed. It was very useful for those of us who found ourselves nervous to put paint to vessel. You know? The crafting nerves, afraid of ruining a perfectly nice rope vessel.
Here Gemma demonstrates how she sews the rope vessels. Everyone had a chance to try their hands at sewing, some even started making their own rope vessels from scratch once everyone else began painting the rope vessels Gemma had brought for each student.
Eugene, the only boy in class, came with his fiance Samantha, and we were all blown away at the ease in which he was sewing (his first time ever!) and his beautiful basket that he painted and made from scratch (pictured below on the left).
And of course we always have to have some little snacks on the table, everyone gets the munchies while we craft. Don't you?
If you like what you see and would like to join us for a Bloesem Class soon, head over to Bloesem.co for more information about the classes. Our next class will be more crafting goodness with Rubyellen Bratcher of Cakies blog! We just can't get enough of these handmade goodies.
