Milan 2013 a round-up

Milaan_1

Good morning it is Femke from Femkeido and it's so nice to be here on Bloesem today. Being an Interior Designer, Milan was the place to be again last week. I traveled to Milan to be inspired at the Salone del Mobile for the Milan Design Week. In this guest-post for Bloesem, I will be sharing some of my pictures I took during my visit.

According to Tom Dixon Gold is the new copper .. what do you think?

The buzz at Rosanna Orlandi was cool as always. The best place to start my trip!

Georg

I love things colour and weird things... the table setting by my favorite design duo Scholten & Baijngs for Georg at Rosanna Orlandi was exactly my piece of cake.

Great to meet Sander Mulder in person at Tom Dixon. You can see him below walking towards his new clock,  TIME, to give it a polish using his own shirt.

Greens and plants we all love them so it was nice seeing some at wallpaper handmade this year.

Mirrors, many mirrors. I love mirrors, I also like the philosophy of mirrors. It is important to have a look in the mirror every now and then. To see what you’re doing and to decide whether you are taking the right steps. In the picture below a mirror at Droog 20+ and a just a random mirror in Ventura Lambrate.

Milan was again great to visit. Very interesting and inspiring over at my blog Femkeido you can read and see more impressions from my trip. ~ Femke

A home in New York

Very very nice to visit this home in Greenpoint, Brooklyn - New York today where two wonderful Dutch designers live. I had the pleasure of meeting this cool couple at NYIGF last year. And I admire what they have done in the past and what they are still doing today ... building a future together and making it in the big apple.

About 7 years after arriving in New York  Jan Habraken now runs his own consulting firm, FormNation and Alissia Melka-Teichroew has her own brand, byAMT. The latter might sound familiar as I have written about her work a couple of times before on Bloesem.

With clients like Adidas, Beth Bath and Beyond and Kikkerland, Jan with his FormNation truly has made a name in the business where he as a consultant for commercial giftware and product companies, as well as design furniture and interiors for brands world wide.

Alissia not only is a designer of jewelry and accessories, she also creates the most beautiful table top products, some furniture and amazing wallpaper, like the 'Ballpoint wallpaper'. Next week I will share some images of her work at the Salone di Mobile Fair 2013.

While reading an interview with them over at Brooklyn Magazine I heard the couple say that they are very happy here in this apartment but the thing they miss most is a real outdoor area to have some diner or just enjoy a morning coffee. I really like how they have decorated the place. The kitchen has so much charm and keeping it so clean and simple allow all the items to be in the spotlight.

Many more images for you below the break ... enjoy!

Monday's quick start: Color Collision

Color Collision from Rogier Arents on Vimeo.

I just love starting a week on Bloesem with some spectecular ceramics ...

Who would have thought that the pigment of a red cabbage could have such a strong color impact!

Read more here about what dutch designers Kristie van Noort and Rogier Arents discovered when mixing ceramics and red cabage 'soup' perhaps easiest to watch the short movie first ... you will love it!

Completely different but just as stunning is the Cornewll collection from Kristie van Noort. The shape and pastel color make this the perfect tableware for me.

Flowers are the Trend

Flower-Patterns-Orange-Yell

We all know 'Flowers' are the trend!

Slowly we are moving away from the geometric patterns and moving forward to more romantic shapes and forms. Although I LOVE everything geometric I do feel the triangles and harlequin patterns may stop ...  So I fully embrace all things flowers ... and especially if it's done so interesting and inspiring as these kaleidoscope idea by stylist Amanda Rodriguez from Australia and photographer Eric Hagman.

I discovered Amanda her work over at Est Magazine (image above by Elin Stromberg) where my eyes where drawn to the 'Hello Yellow' series.
