KL Design Week 2011: Stephen Lau

Unfortunateky I didn't meet the designer, Stephen Lau at the KL design week, but his work and installation was really good. His quircky illustrations in mostly black and white are great. The elephant of course reminded me of my own little friend from BKids :-) ... more information about KL based designer Stephan Lau right here...

KL Design Week 2011: Little Syam and Raw

A whole lot of nice things coming form Asia today here on Bloesem...

The second post about artists I met during last weeks KL design week. Little Syam, a pretty famous artist here in KL... especially known for her bookbinding workshops :-)... her handmade screenprints on canvasses, tote bags and t-shirts are really nice. I hope one day she will start giving workshops for screen-printing too!

Little-Syam shared her booth with the lovely lady from RAW, who makes these patchwork footstools. Bothe artists have a background in graphic design but prefer, I believe, to makes these great interior design accesoiries.

KL Design Week 2011: Oh-and-Ah

Last week I visited the Kuala Lumpur design week 2011, which, unfortunately, I only heard of via twitter at the last minute... the organisation of the KL design week had not done much to promote this event...

BUT meeting some of the designers, crafters and artists who were showcasing their designs was very nice! I enjoyed talking to them and I'm so very happy to see there is a lively KL craft and design community... although they could use so much more help and support from the community.

Today I would like to introduce you to a couple of the artists that I met last week. Starting with the five playful designers from Oh&Ah. They all have very different backgrounds and personalities, but their collection prints, accessories, t-shirts and collectibles fit perfectly together.

The drawings on the concrete walls inside their booth were fantastic and of course I had to buy some brooches and cards. You can visit their website and shop right here.

Let's Get Personal in the Netherlands with Nellianna en Kenneth from Snowpuppe

Let's get Personal with Nellianna en Kenneth from Snowpuppe

D:: Dutch is ....walking along the fishing boats in Scheveningen and breathing in the salty air from the sea. It is also walking on an empty beach during heavy autumn storms, watching big swells.

E:: entrance, when entering our home you will notice ... that we are always busy with creativity. Most of the time our home is filled with sketches, models and inspiring books. Especially Nellianna has the habit of spreading things all over the place.

S:: Style means ... collecting things from places where we have been. Those things reming us of beautiful moments. For instance we have a branch of a tree from Denmark in our bedroom that we use to hang clothes on.

I:: interesting places in my city are ... the secret entrance to the Paleistuinen in the Hague. There is a hidden entrance where you can ring a bell. After ringing, the entrance to the gardens will be opened for you by guards. When entering you feel like the queen.

G:: gardening is something we ... don't do because we don't have a garden. We use the beach and the nature around it as our garden.

N:: New, in our home is ... our second cat Juni (June). Also known as Muesli.

H:: Hobby, I always make time for ... going to the beach. Either for surfing, walking or drinking a cup of coffee with friends.

O:: Outfit, my favorite thing to wear is my pyjama ... in the early morning, waking up with our 2 cats and a bowl of porridge with huney.

M:: Magazines we love to read are magazines... about inspiring people doing things that need courage.

E:: Enjoy, we can't live without ... challenges. We love to get out of our comfort zone.

.......................Thank you Nellianna en Kenneth.......................

Great to see the faces behind studio snowpuppe... are the founders of  snowpuppe, a design studio making super beautiful folded lamps that are based on the Japanes art vorm, origami. Nelliana gave her father a workshop as a present one day not knowing then how much she would love this craft herself. Kenneth came up with the idea to make folded lampshades, but his folding techniques resulted in something that looked more like the bottom half of a snowpup... but Nelianna's patieince and talent paid off and soon the first paper lamp soon was ready for sales...

Yellow details in covet garden's latest issue

Reading the latest issue of online magazine covet garden brought me to these images and I am sharing them becasue of the wonderful yellow details in both images. I think it is an IKEA dining table on top but the owners have added a special touch by coloring it yellow... love this idea and will copy in my own home :-)

Another wonderful idea that the owners of this house, Nancy and Laas, came up with was adding a strip of ochre-yellow carpet in the wooden floor. Not only handy for wet feet when coming out of the bathroom, but also comfortable and nice looking.

Many more beautiful images in again a great issue from covet garden.
