String shelving systems
For a long time now I have a BIG crush on the shelving systems from String! In 1949 Swedish architect Nils Strinning designed this 'simple' construction of powder coated steel frames
on which wooden elements hang. It's timeless, very functional and makes all your books and precious things look more beautiful. {Image above is from City-furniture and below if from Elisabeth Dunker's home}
While visiting Singapore last month I finally found a shop that sells the String shelves here in Asia... it's called Style Nordic on Ann Siang Road, one of the nicest streets in Singapore by the way… of course online there is a lot to find about String shelves…vintage ones and new ones are available throughout the web...

I love these shelves too when I first saw them on the Dosfamily blog...but Hey! I recently snapped up some 1950s Dutch Tomado shelves from ebay (they were a bargain at 35 euros), similar but with colorful metal shelves. I got them posted to the UK from The Netherlands (very light to post) and I'm sure they're going to look great in my little girl's room.

I have an unmarked wire bookshelf that I purchased from an estate sale. The sale was for a reputable artist and I love how simple it is, yet it has enough sculpture to stand out. The shelves are notched a little on the bottom and they rest on the tiered wires. I would love to get more of them, but I already have a giant teak system, and might not know what to do with it all!
Cheers!
