{Ceramic work by Siri Brekke, bowls and plates from 'A Kind of Paradise' series}

I hope you all had a lovely weekend ... I totally forgot that yesterday was a National Holiday here in Malaysia ... everybody was celebrating 'Hari Merdeka' = 'Independence Day' ... so we went to the park, Lake Gardens, played with our son and some friends and had a lazy afternoon ... wonderful!

During the weekend I also received an email from Siri Brekke, a ceramic artist from Bergen, in Norway, telling me that her website just launched ... it's a great summary of all her past and recent work ... Siri works with different ceramic techniques and expressions, both in functional wares as in more sculptural works...the image above show plates from the 'Tableware stories' ... each plate shows the classical motives from bourgeoisie and rural life in Britain, but also contains a message ... Siri let the people speak out about today's global food situation!

These plates are brilliant. We live in Argentina, where we have seen food prices rise dramatically (in some cases 100% or more in a year), and often there are limits on purchasing basic items such as flour. It is my obsession these days for us to move out of apartment living and to be somewhere where there is a small plot of land to grow veggies. It is amazing how much one can grow in an 8'x10" plot!
