Bloesem in Amsterdam

Our world tour starts in Amsterdam... view on Keizersgracht... from our room at Miauw suites... in the heart of the canal area.. Miauw is for sure the best place to stay if you want to spend a few days in Amsterdam... located in a beautifully restored old canal house, very bright, spacious suites, wooden beam ceilings... contemporary furniture... you will feel right at home in your own Miauw apartment .... you may not want to leave again... enjoying a latte in the ground floor reception area which is actually a huge library of fashion magazines and design books.... the reception area regularly features special projects... fashion boutiques or art... when we were staying there sprmrkt had just "opened" a small mobile boutique with the latest designs by known and new designers... no coincidence we were in Amsterdam...celebrating the birthday of the Queens mother.... 30 April.... if you have chance plan your trip during this period... the one day in the year all Dutch go crazy at the same time.... in a good way of course.... the whole country, and especially Amsterdam becomes a huge outdoor flea market, concert hall and big chaotic get together of thousands of people... click here to see more images from the Miauw suites...

...looking for vintage tableware, jewelry, furniture or anything else vintage you can think of... this is your chance...take a few hours to browse through all stalls and turning over piles of old clothes and other stuff that was hidden in attics for years... you can really find some great bargains at the so called 'Vrije Markt' = 'Free Market' during Queensday in the Netherlands...click here to see more images from the Queens Birthday Party 2008 in Amsterdam...

Amsterdam's is one of my favorite cities...one I hope to revisit with my current husband who loves to bike.
Thanks for this insight on a good time to go.

Hi Irene
I LOVE Amsterdam, it's one of my favourite cities! My husband took me there a couple of times for long weekends when we were still living together in London.
Now we're living in Melbourne, Australia with our son James (2 years, 4 months old) and our new baby Matthew, who was born 2 weeks ago (7 weeks premature).
I want to thank you for a great blog (and BKids too!) - I often feel like I'm stuck in a bit of a vortex sometimes with a toddler (and now a baby too!) and I have no idea what's going on out there in the "real world". I love to check in on your blog weekly (if not daily) to see all the gorgeous things and feel like I'm up-to-date with what's going on out there regarding design, art and so on.
Anyway, I hope you have a great weekend - we're very excited because tomorrow we bring baby Matthew home for the first time!
Kind regards
Candice

I agree: Miauw suites is located on the corner of one of the best canals at the city center of Amsterdam. But why is there so less informatie about their apartments in Amsterdam on the Miauw-website? The pictures they show us are taken in Antwerpen and not in Amsterdam. Come on Miauw suites: try harder! More pictures and more additional information please!
Kind regards
Petra

I love your blog and have gotten quite addicted to it. I'm currently in college in South Carolina but I'm studying abroad in Amsterdam in the fall so obviously, I loved this entry. Could you suggest some great stores to go to while I'm in Amsterdam? I love your site's aesthetic so I trust your judgment.
Thanks!

As a true dutch girl its really funny to read your story about amsterdam and especially koninginnedag.Fun to know how other people see the city. I am absolutely sure that you saw Holland at its best and in orange ;)
