Link Love

Bloesem living | Friday Link Love

The Frame for the little exhibitions you create in your own home.

The amazing styling possibilities with a great collection of items.

Wool felt curtains..

For the little details in your home..

Out with the blacks and greys and in with the yellows, perfect for this heat wave we are experiencing in Singapore.

This article has been making it's rounds and it really has a point. A wardrobe full of clothes does not make dressing for work easy, but a uniform definitely does.

Healthy chocolate quinoa snack bars? Yes please.

Get lost in textures.

Final few spots to join us and make some heavenly smelling candles. Everyone always smells great after this class too because they spent 4 hours in a room with essential oils.. sounds like a pretty awesome way to spend an afternoon right?

Anna Badur

Bloesem living | Anna Badur home accessories and furniture

Though Anna Badur calls herself a designer, we see her more as an artist. In her piece Drawn by Nature, the natural movement of the wind is captured on the cloth as the blue pigments are blown across it. From far it reminds us of the richness of shibori dyeing but on closer inspection, it is a whole different kind of beauty.

We can truly say that she is a mixed media artist when looking at her portfolio of work, which includes furniture such as the concrete stool that gives the illusion of a soft texture, wallpapers and even working with ceramics. Some of her work is available in her store too.

Nell & Mary

Bloesem Living | Quick Start: Nell & Mary

As much as we are big fans of bold and bright prints and patterns, we cannot help but to swoon over these simple playful printed home accessories in the freshest colour scheme...A Portland, Oregon based design studio with a passion for textiles, Nell & Mary offers a range of environmentally and socially conscious goods (totes, pouches, pillows, tea towels...) all sewn and screen printed by hand.

It's strange, in a good way of course, that we are appreciating much more of the details of each print design like never before through their choice of using subtle pops of colour in each of their products. We are definitely smitten with what we are seeing so far over here...

And, we are so glad that they recently opened their own retail store, North of West... A design-driven mercantile carrying over 40 brands with products that they carefully selected and are incredibly passionate about, we think this shop is not to be missed if any of you are heading to Portland, Oregon!

Anecdote

Bloesem living | Shop Stop: Anecdote in Amsterdam

One of the first stores I popped into while in Amsterdam was Anecdote. A beautiful store as it is, was made amazing with the help of gorgeous morning light. Clothes right up my alley, exquisite interiors and welcoming staff made the perfect first experience.

Despite the success of the label, the Anecdote team has focused their efforts on their only store which is located along Wolvenstraat 15. At the same time they stock their pieces in their online store along with several multi-level boutiques across the world.

There is strength in a name like Anecdote, that everyone can understand and relate to, no matter where you come from. And honestly, what a perfect name it is.. it's no wonder their best selling item is the basic sweater with just the word "Anecdote" on it.

Get to know Anecdote in this super quick "5 things":

ONE: Many people mistake Anecdote for a Scandinavian or French label but they are proudly from Amsterdam.

TWO: Anecdote is a collection of easy to wear pieces, all day wear, so comfy you won't want to take them off. It's every occasion wear, taking you from home to the office and out for post-work drinks.

Thank you Martine for your generous prize for our Bloesem class student, we hope it motivates everyone to keep going with all the new skills they picked up during the class.

Of course there were so many beautiful shots to choose from and it was quite a challenge just picking one but Trisha Toh and the Bloesem team had a great time looking through the images.. there is so much potential!

Trisha Travels: Around Berlin

Bloesem living | City Guide: Berlin

Don't you like reading city guides? For us, city guides are a joy to flip through because even if it were a guide to a city we have lived in, we love seeing it from a different perspective and seeing how other people, whether tourists or locals, see the city. Here we have Trisha Toh, who hails from Malaysia, sharing with us a few spots she visited while she traveled around Europe.

Along with the two other cities Trisha visited, Berlin was another must-visit. We're sure this will whet your appetite for the city of Berlin. The next step is to book your tickets there but of course there is plenty of time for that after your go through the city guide. We are awestruck by the architecture, the cafes, the culture and of course much more that the city has to offer.

Follow along with Trisha's European journey in the Bloesem Gazette " The Conversation Issue".

Fun fact: MUR is French for ripe. It is also the name for the webshop that we are currently ogling.. Started by a husband and wife duo, MUR lifestyle is the place to go if you are one who loves home goods and kitchen accessories produced by small scale manufacturers, artisans and designers who want to move away from the "disposable culture".

We suggest you stop purchasing items that are temporary and start investing in quality pieces that will stand the test of time and just age beautifully.

MUR lifestyle is the perfect outlet for Danielle and Joel, the brains behind MUR; a way where Danielle's love for design can come together with Joel's business mind. Way to go guys!

Carmen Von Trueba

Bloesem living | Get to face to face with designer Carmen Von Trueba

Early last year, we started seeing alot of amazing poster and prints online and we even shared one such collection. Remember the Veggie collection by Von Trueba? Yes the ones with the amazing leaves that have been a hit everywhere.. people are really loving the leaves nowadays. Of course flowers are classic but leaves are a nice change.. but before we get too carried away.. we thought we'd introduce you to the young talent behind the Von Trueba prints, Carmen.

Hi Carmen, tell us a little about yourself.

I was born in Murcia (Spain), and after years drawing and traveling I decided that Architecture could be my thing. I graduated from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, where I also won awards and prizes for design, art, and innovation.

Nowadays I am based in London, and have several platforms where I show my designs (inspired by geometry and materials), and illustrations.

Could you share with us 3 of your favourite spots in your city?

My favourite spots in London are: Shoreditch, Southbank and Kensington gardens.

Are there any design hangouts or places you can go to meet other creates where you live?

Here in London it is rare not to always have something to do or somewhere to go to. You have to be tuned in because there is always something going on, sometimes is stressful because I dont want to miss anything.

Back from Amsterdam

Bloesem living | Bloesem class goes to Amsterdam

After a whirlwind 1o day trip to Amsterdam I am home! Definitely an unforgettable trip... not only was it my first time in Europe, it was also our first Bloesem Class that has taken place outside of Singapore.

Together with Trisha Toh (our #instafood teacher), I spent 4 days meeting amazing students (who feel more like friends now) and sharing the joy of food styling and photography.. and whenever we were not teaching, we were exploring hotspots around town.. so look forward to some posts on that! We had to also visit cafes of course, treats for me and coffee for Trisha.

So here are some snaps I thought I'd share of the trip... hopefully not giving away too much.. just a hint of what's to come..

Wood workin'

Bloesem living | wood work by Ariele Alasko

Bloesem living | wood work by Ariele Alasko

What first caught our eye was Ariele Alasko's amazing store filled with handmade wooden goodies but then we hit the motherload when we ventured onto her website and saw these beautiful headboards and other wooden delights! The way she plays with wood and combines different coloured woods to create such pieces of art is simply amazing.

It is a tedious process creating each piece as every piece of wood has to be cut precisely to fit, so it is no wonder it takes days or even weeks to complete each. Ariele collects all her materials, cleans them and then uses the wood in their natural state (colours, patina and all) to create these patterns.. no stain involved!
