Urbe

Bloesem living | Urbe furniture by Pasquale Alison

Urbe is a family of tables, chairs and stools by Italian designer, Pasquale Alison. Inspired by the different cities in Italy, the collection of furniture is characterized by different prints of the Italian cities of Rome, Naples, Milan, Ponza and Capri. The tops of the pieces depict maps of the different cities and come in different colours. Great pieces that help combine our love for furniture and travel!

24 hours in Bangkok

Bloesem living | Travel: 24 hours in Bangkok

Recently Mei and Zara from the Bloesem Team headed to Bangkok for a super short trip and here's what they got up to.. there's so many things to do and see in Bangkok and so many must-do and must-visit places and things but here's what they got up to with just 24 hours to spare in the beautiful city of Bangkok.

9 AM - Wakey wakey

We spent the night at Tenface hotel. Beautiful interiors, friendly and helpful staff. You could not ask for more. Only thing is that if you plan on walking back to the hotel, it is abit away from the main road and gets pretty dark at night. Other than that, we had a perfect stay.

Head to the breakfast buffet to enjoy a continental breakfast, fill your tummies for a packed day ahead.

11.30 AM - Head to The Bloc

The Bloc is located more towards the suburbs so taxis and hotel staff would suggest you to head over early in the day rather than in the evening to avoid peak hour traffic. The Bloc is an isolated area with stores and cafes set in freight containers. You can find our favourite store (great for instagramming) Things to Make and Do there, as well as Simple Day Cafe, Think Cafe and a restaurant which we personally were to stuffed with sweet treats to try.

We will do another post with more details of what we ate and our reviews on them. (You've got to stay tuned!)

3 PM - Head back to the City

Grab a taxi on the main road and head back to the city. You can either take a cab all the way to your next location or simply take a taxi to the nearest BTS stop (their train system)...

Table for 1: Eenmaal

Bloesem living | Table for 1 please: Pop-up restaurant to dine alone at - Eenmaal

Have you ever had a meal in a restaurant alone? It's something that has been touched on pop culture, namely the scene from Friends where Rachel eats alone and the cute doctor thinks she's a freak.. why is that though? The stigma of eating alone is crushed by Eenmaal - the first one-person pop-up restaurant in the world, a great place for a meal and for temporary disconnect.

Having a meal is a very common practise for people to meet up and chat and get to know each other over, but having a meal alone every once in awhile can make for great me-time and also allow you enjoy the food thoroughly instead of getting lost in conversation. The experience would probably start out feeling kind of odd but I think when you see all the other individuals around you having a great time and that no one is staring at you and wondering why you are alone, you'll feel right at home.

Etsy Meets Singapore

Bloesem living | Etsy Meets Singapore - Bloesem hosts Etsy private event in Singapore

For all the long time lovers of peer-to-peer platform for buying and selling handmade and vintage items, we are so happy to say that Etsy is coming to Singapore! The Etsy team will be coming down to the our little red dot from the 18 to 28 May 2015. While they are here, they will be organizing a few different events to spread the word about Etsy, as well as to meet up with current Etsy sellers and hopefully future ones too..

Bloesem is very honoured to be working with Etsy to host a private event for press and social influencers in Singapore to get to know Etsy better. We are looking forward to an eventful day full of treats and activities with the participants who have RSVP. If you have received an invite, we do hope we will be seeing you then!

If you have been toying with the idea of joining Etsy to start selling your handmade and vintage goods to people around the world, this is the perfect opportunity! Etsy is offering a promo code to new sellers to open your own Etsy shop without any listing fees for the first 20 items. Just enter ETSYMEETSSINGAPORE when you visit the Etsy promotions page.

We've planned a fun-filled afternoon - feasting, festivities and of course no Etsy event would be complete without some hands-on crafting fun! We'll be teaching the participants how to create their very own scented candles.. our favourite craft to do with a group of friends. It's incredibly fun to pick and combine the different essential oils to come up with something that everyone loves.

However if you won't be joining us during the Etsy event, fret not! Bloesem candle making class makes a come back this summer with our 2 classes in June and July. Though we do have to warn you, this class is selling out fast, one of the classes is almost fully booked.. so don't wait too long before you grab your spot.

TB…to be or not to be…?

Bloesemshop

Dear readers,

TB…to be or not to be…? That was the question the Bloesem team was pondering most of last week, but then we decided to bite the bullet and leave Tiong Bahru. What? Yes, it is true… Bloesem is moving on to greener pastures (quite literally perhaps, stay tuned for the announcement of our new location…). But why are you leaving TB, many of you have asked me privately and online… well, for starters, it is not just Bloesem leaving TB; a number of inspiring new businesses are leaving as well or, rather, should I say have been asked to leave.

Suffice to say, we and our colleague-entrepreneurs feel misunderstood and under-appreciated to put it very mildly… but we can take a hint and know when we are no longer welcome... will we miss TB? Certainly, we thoroughly enjoyed staying there and love the architecture and vibe of the area, all of which we will leave behind now…

However, as a famous woman once sung (OK, first sung by a man…), “non, je ne regrette rien”!

Most of all, I am very proud of what the Bloesem team (Zara, Mei and Anouk) has accomplished in TB and I am sure many of you have seen and experienced firsthand what Bloesem and similar businesses have brought to TB, seeking to add genuine value to the character of the neighborhood, but I could be bias of course… :) …

Over the last few years the Bloesem team has put a lot of positive energy into TB with the aim to help putting it firmly on the world map of up and coming neighborhoods and we like to think that we made at least a modest difference, but leave it to you to be the judge of that… so, while indeed we have no regrets, this episode leaves somewhat of a scar on the Bloesem team which is unfortunate I must say… all of that said, at Bloesem we remain very positive about the future (although the last few weeks that has not been such an easy thing to do for us), with the one big positive from this experience being that Bloesem has grown significantly since first opening its doors in TB almost two years ago, thanks to all of you, for which we are very grateful… you can rest assured that we will continue to blossom in Singapore and beyond, going confidently into the direction of our dreams… Irene xoxo

Saniyo

Bloesem living | Saniyo ceramic kitchenware

"Less is More" - I think everyone is familiar with this saying. This is also the philosophy behind Saniyo. Their aim is to design simple, socially responsible and functional pieces for everyone to enjoy.

Their first collection "Gathering" is a partyware set that includes cups, plates and even a nested condiment set. Taking inspiration from the solar system, they wish to remind users that as humans we are part of something bigger, the universe. Remember that in this big world with so many things and people and animals, we should cherish the ones nearest and dearest to us - family and friends.

We thinks that a great reason to have a party, don't you? Celebrate life, everyday!

Craft Inspiration: Heju

Bloesem living | Craft inspiration - Heju

Every Tuesday on Bloesem kids we share a kids craft contributed by our lovely team of crafters. They have a craft for every occasion, like Mother's Day this Sunday for instance! We think it's a fun way to start off the week. So we thought it would do the same on Bloesem living as well. If you haven't already seen some of Heju's craft projects floating around on the internet, then you need to get on that right now. We know many people who prefer to just buy something rather then make it for fear of making a mess or things going wrong.

Heju crafts are simple enough to follow without feeling like you are going to create a monster. You can see a whole selection of colourful and fun DIY projects for home accessories and decor in their craft archives. These faux ceramic pots in particular is our favourite and we are definitely going to try to recreate them.. they would be lovely around the house.

We've met our Matcha

Bloesem living | Preparing Matcha Tea

High on our list of places to visit is Japan. With all the amazing designs and just the culture you see online, the allure of Japan is undeniable. We already love Japanese food so we need no convincing to hop on the next plane out of Singapore and head over. Fortunately for us, we have contributors and friends who are generous enough to share bits of their journey with us! Recently, Adinda from Wolves Table headed to Japan and here is a little slice of her trip.

-

It's been two weeks since I came back from a 3 week trip to Japan. And Japan still has its powers over me. During my stay in Japan I ate and drank a lot of matcha and other tea related snacks, drinks and meals. I've always been a huge tea fan but my trip to Japan really thought me a lot about different kinds and flavors of tea and I experienced my first Japanese matcha tea ceremony.

During my stay, I bought myself a chasen (a handmade bamboo whisk) and a lot's of pretty matcha-chawan's (Japanese tea bowls). Because: one can never have enough tea bowls, or anything Japanese and ceramic related (duh).

More Matcha this way..
